Aquarium Volume & Weight Calculator

Have you ever wondered how much water is actually in your tank after you subtract glass thickness, substrate, and decorations? Or whether your floor can handle all that weight at all?

This calculator gives you all these numbers – not just “store size”!

What It Does (and why it’s useful)

  • Internal volume – accounts for glass/acrylic thickness. For example, a 30×30×30 cm tank with 0.4 cm glass holds ~25.6 L, not 27.

  • Multiple shapes – rectangular, cylinder, corner (triangular), bow‑front, hexagon, octagon.

  • Total weight – water + tank material (glass/acrylic) + substrate + decorations. This can be essential if you’re placing the tank on a weak floor or stand.

  • Substrate calculator – front/rear depth (slope), density (sand, gravel, soil).

  • Glass thickness recommendation – based on water height and longest side. Warns you when it’s over 50 mm (engineer time)!

Why It Matters For Your Live Stock

Wrong volume means wrong medication, fertilizer, or filter sizing.

How to use it:

  1. Select shape of the tank.

  2. Enter external dimensions (inches or cm – toggle US/Metric).

  3. Pick material (glass/acrylic) and thickness.

  4. Add water level (empty space from top), substrate type & depth, decoration weight.

  5. Results update instantly.

Note: You can also share your setup with the “Share” button.

Important:

For tanks over 265 gallons (1000 L) or thickness above 0.6-0.8 inches (~15‑20 mm), treat the recommendation as a rough guide – consult a professional. The formula is safe for most hobby tanks, not for swimming pools :)
